Drive-through inspection tunnels are becoming a key part of modern workshops, changing how vehicles are received and inspected from the moment they arrive. This article looks at how they work, what they produce, and how they fit into the day-to-day running of a site.

Our drive-through inspection tunnels are designed and prefabricated by us, allowing them to be installed with minimal disruption to the site. They are often positioned away from the main workshop area, helping keep day-to-day operations running as normal during installation and use.

With our experience in workshop design, we work with each site to determine the most effective location for the tunnel, ensuring it fits naturally into the flow of the business.

Once in place, the tunnel becomes part of the arrival process. As vehicles come onto site, they are driven through the tunnel, where inspection systems capture data in real time.

Results are immediately displayed in the reception area, giving customers early visibility and often prompting initial conversations. Service advisors then have access to more detailed information on an iPad, allowing them to review the results and discuss any findings with the customer.

Equipment Inside the Tunnel

Bodyguard Camera System

Bodyguard Camera System

As the vehicle passes through the tunnel, BODYGUARD® captures the registration details and records high-definition footage from up to 10 camera angles.

Each inspection is stored against the vehicle and can be easily accessed at any time, providing a clear record should any damage be queried.

Inspection results are instantly available through clear, visual reports. Service Advisors can access them easily on an tablet or phone and share the results with the customer.

Training and Onboarding

Training is delivered on-site by an Everard specialist, who spends the full day with the team and works through the system in a live environment.

We provide training across all key roles, including:

  • Service advisors
  • Technicians
  • Tyre fitters
  • Drivers and concierge staff
  • Management

Sessions are short and focused, typically ranging from 15 to 40 minutes depending on the role, allowing each team to understand how the system fits into their day-to-day responsibilities. Each session covers how the system operates, what it measures, and how the information is used across the site — from guiding vehicles through the tunnel to reviewing and presenting results.

How the Tunnels Are Built and Installed

One of the key benefits of these tunnels is that they are fabricated entirely off-site, then delivered and installed with minimal disruption to your site.

Each tunnel structure is delivered to Everard headquarters with all agreed branding and finishes in place. From there, our team fully equips the unit in-house, installing all required inspection technology and ensuring everything is prepared ahead of installation.

Once complete, our installation team manages delivery to site and oversees the full setup, ensuring a smooth and controlled installation process.

Where groundworks are required, these are fully coordinated by us. This typically includes preparing the recess for the tunnel, excavation, concrete bases, and ducting for power and data connections — all aligned with the installation requirements.

Final installation also includes full electrical and data integration, with connections made to key systems such as tyre tread readers, inspection equipment, specialist lighting, and control panels within the tunnel. Compressed air and data connections can also be incorporated where required, ensuring the tunnel is fully operational from day one.

What the Data Shows

This data is taken from one of our BMW retailer sites, based on a three-month period from January to March 2026, and highlights the level of opportunity identified through the inspection process.
